MAISON MARGIELA – SILVER OYSTER WATCH STRAP

Posted on 2019-10-21

Made in Italy, the piece comes in an oyster strap construction highlighted in two-toned steel: the middle link is wrapped around by a darker shade. Subtle brush marks and light polishing appear throughout the strap, covered from one end of the clasp to the other. On the face of the clasp is Maison Margiela’s signature numeric logo, with the number “11” circled. As a finishing note, the flip-clasp can be adjusted to the wearer’s fit.

TAKASHI MURAKAMI – BAKA

Posted on 2019-10-21

This exhibition presents about twenty works in Perrotin’s Salle de Bal at 60 rue de Turenne – a showroom that is usually closed to the public and only available to visit by appointment. The large space is dedicated to Mr. DOB, the iconic character created by the artist in 1993. For this exhibition, the artist has created six new portraits of Mr. DOB in shaped canvas formed around the character’s contours. In the middle of the room, a central 5-foot sculpture represents the same full-length character.
The design for Mr. DOB was inspired by several animated figures including Doraemon, Sonic and Mickey Mouse. His name is a diminutive of the expression dobojite, meaning “why” in Japanese slang.

Exhibition runs through to December 21st, 2019

MAX COOPER – VOID

Posted on 2019-10-14

“I wanted to try and render the cold dark void of emptiness with this chapter, which meant some darkroom industrial sounds, and lots of power. I started by making binaural recordings of Antony Gormley sculptures, clanging them, scraping them, tapping them etc, with permission, and without damaging them of course! Some of the large sculptures in particular created these huge resonances as the metal surfaces bowed at their natural low frequency, it was a lot of fun to work with, and sounds pretty mad on a big system.

For the video, rather than just going black screen, I thought a lo-fi approach could work, focused on simplicity, intensity and the use of parallax to create the appearance of distance with infinite vanishing points. Jessica In created a super intense moire-pattern version of this idea which fits the audio perfectly, and forms one of the most intense moments of the live show. For the live show I also layer over some infinite cityscape imagery on the gauze screen, blended with the abstractions, to link back in the human side of the story.”

JUTTA KOETHER – EARLY WORKS 1982-1992

Posted on 2019-10-14

Galerie Buchholz is pleased to announce an extensive exhibition of early works by Jutta Koether from the years 1982 to 1992, on both floors of our Berlin gallery. Since “Warmer Stern”, the first solo exhibition by the artist at our Cologne gallery in 1996, this is the eighth solo exhibition by Jutta Koether with Galerie Buchholz.
On the first floor of the Berlin gallery we will present an overview of Jutta Koether’s small-format paintings from the early 1980s, leading up to her monochromatic red paintings from the late 80s.
On the second floor we will show a complete reconstruction of Jutta Koether’s “Massen – Malerei und Versammlung” (“Masses – Painting and Assembly”), from the beginning of the 1990s, a painting installation which was produced by the artist for an exhibition at Generali Foundation in Vienna in 1991.

Opposite – Massen, 1991

Exhibition runs through to January 25th, 2020
