ANDREW MOORE – BLUE SWEEP

Posted on 2019-01-28

Following upon in-depth explorations of the economically ravaged city of Detroit (2007 – 2009) and the mythic high plains region along the 100th meridian (2011 – 2014), Blue Sweep continues the artist’s investigation of “the inner empire” of the United States. This is the artist’s seventh exhibition at the gallery.

The result of twelve trips over three years, Moore’s work in the American South uses historic homes, both grand and modest, the preserved backroom of a Jewish social club, the curtained entry to a Freemason’s temple, a worm-eaten map of Hale County and a ruined bridge in a verdant swamp to suggest the economic, social and cultural divisions that characterize the South and the love of history, tradition and land that binds its citizens. The exhibition juxtaposes three different views of domestic dwellings which allude to these themes: the richly adorned library of a grand plantation house; a modest bare-floor bedroom decorated with emblems of God and country hung on unpainted wooden walls; and a remote trailer home with a dirt swept yard, a traditional landscaping practice brought to the south by West African slaves.

HAROLD HALIDAY COSTAIN – SUGAR AND SALT

Posted on 2019-01-28

Harold Haliday Costain (1897-1994) had a thriving commercial studio in Scarsdale, New York when he produced some of his finest work photographing the inner workings of the sugar and salt industries. His dramatic and precisionist images of mines, factories, and warehouses were commissioned as publicity for the International Salt Company and the National Sugar Refining Company.

In 1934, his work for International Salt took him to the mines of Avery Island, where he photographed the mining and processing of rock salt into table salt. His studies of drilling and blasting made for glorious illustrations of heroic miners illuminated against the cavernous crystalline walls aglow with the photographer’s strategically placed artificial light.

Y-3 – EVOLUTION OF THE Y-3 RUNNER 4D

Posted on 2019-01-28

For Spring/Summer 2019, Y-3 evolves the innovative, purpose-built Y-3 RUNNER 4D, which leveragesADIDAS 4D, the world’s first high-performance midsole to be designed with data and crafted by lightand oxygen. Based on years of athlete data, the shoe’ssingle component design is precisely tuned for controlled energy return, providing long-lasting cushioning and stability for any activity.

This second advancement on the breakthrough Y-3 RUNNER 4D features uppers comprised of a red double-layer knit, which further increases stability in the lower part of the shoe. The inner layer is woven with the adidas 3-stripe motif and bears the YohjiYamamoto logo at its center.

In a unique design feat, both layers are linked by a lightweight, ultra-strength cording made of high tensile. A product of form and function, this distinct cording defines the new aesthetic language of the Y-3 RUNNER 4D and simultaneously provides the shoe’s lacing system. The result is a confident new expression of the ADIDAS 4D vision.

A limited quantity of the new Y-3 RUNNER 4D will launch on January 31st exclusively at Y-3 flagship stores and www.y-3.com.
