ORSON – FOR THE HEAD/ THE PAST IS A DREAM

Posted on 2017-03-06

Version 008 is a futuristic dubwise double-sider from label boss Orson himself. “For The Head” sees him stalking an abandoned Berlin bunker, finding a sparse yet terrifiying bassline, while beating the 808 drum kit in his signature 128 bpm half-step style. On the massive “The Past Is A Dream” Orson takes us a few storeys deeper: the bass is a more subby affair, urgent and captivating, outerworldly flute, spoken word, coming in like ancient memories, earth-shattering 808, echoeing a certain Chicago warehouse located deep in the London jungle.

THE LOVE WITCH

Posted on 2017-03-06

Elaine, a beautiful young witch, is determined to find a man to love her. In her gothic Victorian apartment she makes spells and potions, and then picks up men and seduces them. However her spells work too well, and she ends up with a string of hapless victims. When she finally meets the man of her dreams, her desperation to be loved will drive her to the brink of insanity and murder. With a visual style that pays tribute to Technicolor thrillers of the ‘60s, THE LOVE WITCH explores female fantasy and the repercussions of pathological narcissism.

TOBIAS MADISON – CRISIS TOURISM

Posted on 2017-03-06

Tony Lewis’s practice focuses on the relationship between semiotics and language: graphite pencil and paper are the mediums the artist uses to trace and create abstract narratives and reflections on the notion of the gestural. When I Felt Like I Could Sing That, Then I Felt Like I Was In embodies the artists’ research for pure abstraction: tracing the conclusion of a research process that started in his earlier series of drawings titled Gregg Shorthand.
This new body of work, where graphite and coloured pencils generate impulsive and rhythmic shapes on paper, is intended by Lewis as a further exploration of the Gregg Shorthand system and its connection to sound, speech and pulse. In this series of drawings seemingly simple abstractions conceal intricate narratives, “beginning with a phoneme gesture as the systematic foundation (of the drawing), the coloured pencil works to support, react to, and riff off of the initial rhythm put forth by linguistic sound, creating a sequence of improvisation, and a diagram of cosmic libido.” Each drawing in the exhibition results as a take on planned yet raw abstraction. Fragments of phonetics and colour form a visual and musical composition of chatter and shapes, which merge together to offer a reflection on the convergence of sound, language and tones.

ADIDAS CONSORTIUM X TITOLO NMD XR1

Posted on 2017-03-06

Adidas consortium and Swiss footwear powerhouse Titolo collaborate on a fresh, icy NMD. With stores in Zurich and Basel, Titolo has looked to the region’s dramatic outdoors to create a sneaker inspired by alpine snow zones and hidden glacial phenomena.

Upon casual inspection, snowscape is a plain blanket, a vast, one-tone expanse of white. But pan out above the mountainside and patterns begin to emerge. The outermost layer of powder shifts, forming tessellations and sweeping, ever-changing corrugations on the surface. The Titolo NMD XR1 Trail reflects this landscape via a loose gauge pattern in the sneaker’s Primeknit upper and perforated leather details, while the asymmetric overlay resembles a snow coated ridge in the sunlight.

Mountainous patterns are further echoed in the textured structure of the BOOST midsole. The outsole, the only part of the shoe that is not white, summons the image of an exposed glacier. Millions of years in age, wondrous, translucent and impossible to explore beyond the surface, it is a smart and evocative source of inspiration for the rarely-seen underside of a sneaker.
