New Brazil 45’s 58, 59 and 60

Posted on 2016-11-21

Mr Bongo’s drop three new Brazil 45’s.

‘Golden era’ Brazilian music, recorded between the late 1960’s and early 1980’s, mastered and cut loud at 45rpm on 7″ vinyl, packaged in lovingly produced Brazil 45 house bags.

The imprint features rare and sought after tracks previously unreleased as singles or only available on quieter – and more often than not, expensive – LP pressings. Finding these tracks in good condition at a fair price is extremely difficult, as anyone who has searched for them will know.

BRZ45.058 –– Ana Maria e Maurício – Figa de Guiné / Novos Baianos
BRZ45.059 –– Antonio Carlos & Jocafi – Simbarerê / Kabaluere
BRZ45.060 –– Quinteto Ternura – Baby / Trio Ternura – Filhos De Zambi

SPARKY – NACHTISCH

Posted on 2016-11-21

“We are all just zombies” , Sparky notes, referring to the inclination of his peers to early retirement. The Cologne rapper from the Sektorwestbüdchengang speaks for all “city kids”, which was more promised than a brown combi, a freshly painted carport and a front yard with accurately cut hedges. His debut album is somewhere between the tough syrup-hop of DJ Screw and current old-rap approaches from Odd Future over Grimes to Ratking. Producer Yourz mixes UK basses, 808 drums, and melancholic melodies into an individual cocktail that transcends helpless fantasy terms such as “Cloudrap”.

UPRISINGS BY KOZYNDAN

Posted on 2016-11-14

“Uprisings” by Kozyndan originated as an illustration inspired by the classic Hokusai woodblock print, “The Great Wave off Kanagawa.” Munky King has transformed the illustration into an art vinyl sculpture that can be displayed on its own or used as a bookend. Sculpted by Julie B of Pretty in Plastic. Featuring metallic blue water and pearlescent white bunnies cresting off the top of the wave, Uprisings is sure to fulfill every collector’s art object desire.

RICHARD PHILLIPS

The sculptural images are sourced from the artist’s photos of the Palazzo Della Civiltà and the Foro Italico. Using a vertical halftone graphic image, the painted wax oil emulsion paintings physically reconstruct in optical color the anti-modernist sculptures intended to honor Rome’s neo-classical past.

The other series comes from close ups of Cy Twombly’s Roman Salalah paintings of 2005/07 and his Final paintings of 2012. The compositions are inspired by the detailed documentary images found in artists catalogs designed to show mastery.

JOSH MANNIS – KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUTURE ESTATE

Posted on 2016-11-14

A fixture in the Los Angeles art scene, Josh Mannis is best known for his singular ink-on-paper drawings that revel in the obsessive-compulsive experience of creating work and the viewer’s absorption in looking. The show will present a new suite of these complex all-over compositions that feature the artist’s trademark fetishistic attention to surface. In his non-hierarchical approach to image—making, each element—every object, twisting baroque-posing figure and background-is equally insistent. The resulting image creates a shimmering, vibrating graphic effect.

This exhibition will also debut a new painting series by Mannis. These paintings allow for a broadening of the gestural mark and an expansion into color. As with the works on paper, the emphasis is on the experiential project of visual pleasure-the overwhelming optical effect of detailed patterns, colors and flourishes on the canvas. Thematically, these works describe an attempt to imagine a life of equilibrium in various forms, from Southern California culture to new age Orientalism. Mannis’ work is informed by a broad but interconnected range of art historical and contemporary cultural references.
