GEORGE TICE – URBAN LANDSCAPES

Posted on 2016-10-03

The exhibition will present a remarkable selection of forty exceptionally rare vintage 8 x 10 inch gelatin silver contact prints from the early period (1973-74), of Tice’s ongoing epic visual poem of his native state of New Jersey. These unique vintage prints will be punctuated with larger photographs of some of artist’s most revered and significant images, as well as selections of more recent work from his extended New Jersey portrait.

Renowned for their attentive and quotidian descriptions of the everyday structures and places that define the American cultural landscape, Tice’s exquisitely printed photographs catalog a rich and layered journey that is both personal and universal. In the photographs that comprise Urban Landscapes, Tice defines a sense of America within a tradition rooted in the work of other American masters, namely Edward Hopper and Walker Evans. Tice’s photographs of New Jersey in the early to mid 1970’s describe a particular time and place; however, as the artist states, “It takes the passage of time before an image of a commonplace subject can be assessed. The great difficulty of what I attempt is seeing beyond the moment; the
everydayness of life gets in the way of the eternal”. Now, with decades past, Tice’s observations have become even more poignant depictions, everlasting a specific era and landscape, as the artist intended.

ELENI PANOUKLIA

Posted on 2016-10-03

Meant to be experienced at night, Its luminous saying must be left a conjecture is a mixed-media intervention that occupies select spaces of the complex of abandoned manufacturing units known today as Palaio Elaiourgeio (Old Oil Mill) of Eleusis, converting industrial ruins into an evocative earthy soundscape of difficult paths and inaccessible sanctuaries—an allegorical “whole” sunk in darkness. Beginning and ending in the backyard of the derelict factory, it consists of two cyclically communicating environments that entail separate—both collective and private—explorations to complete the work and activate the dialogue of light and dark that underpins its enigma. Its luminous saying must be left a conjecture immerses the viewer in a contrapuntally structured experience of darkness by combining a disorderly, pulsating landscape of powerful sonorous enclosure with a lonely ritual itinerary through the silent passageway of a long building, where an interactive event awaits each viewer. Together, the two environments seek to affectively advance both timely critical and timeless existential realizations through distinct bodily and reflective enlightenments, or, better yet, “un-concealments” of the wholeness of being in darkness.

B12 – DECEASED UNKNOWN

Posted on 2016-10-03

One of the most revered names in the UK techno lineage, B12 were responsible for pioneering our take on Detroit’s ambient techno sound. The distinctly futurism-inspired atmosphere of their early work lives on in Deceased Unknown, albeit with a darker and bleaker tone than previously explored. The sprawling and disorientating ‘Don’t Look Down’ brings to mind some of the Modern Love releases, full of mystery and intrigue. EP closer ‘Minor Decay’ operates with the typical B12 blueprint, both heady yet dance floor friendly.

MOORHOUSE BREWERY X NEW ORDER- STRAY DOG BEER

Posted on 2016-10-03

New Order have joined forces with Moorhouse’s Brewery of Burnley to launch an exciting new beer, set for release later this autumn.

The premium 4.2% beer, named ‘Stray Dog’ (after a track on the band’s most recent album Music Complete), is a refreshing and clean tasting golden ale with hints of citrus fruit and lychee, all balanced by a subtle bitterness.

Brewed using American Cascade, Centennial and Willamette hops, with the finest English Maris Otter malt, it was developed by head brewer Dan Casaru at Moorhouse’s new £5m state-of-the-art brewery after a series of tastings earlier this spring.

Created with both new and established cask ale drinkers in mind, ‘Stray Dog’ will be available to pubs nationwide, with a bottled 500ml version also available for supermarkets and export.

Posted on 2016-10-03

With her first record for Sonic Pieces, Midori Hirano is stepping out of the conventional paths of modern classical, ambient and electronic music without trying to be anything other than herself. Minor Planet eludes categorization and it’s a most satisfying experience to listen to something this honest.
