JENNY HVAL – BLOOD BITCH

Posted on 2016-08-29

Channeling the spirit of 70’s gore ‘n’ guts horror through a cryptic frostbite circumference, Jenny Hval follows up the explosive Apocalypse, girl with her new album Blood Bitch for Sacred Bones.

Composed as an investigation of Blood, Jenny Hval uses her latest album platform to spin exceptionally composed pop music with a thick, dark red spirit seeping through its veins. Described as containing fictious stories ‘”fed by characters and images from horror and exploitation films of the 70s”. This is reflected in the tale of a vampire named Orlando who is traveling through space and time, and a story more close to the bone of a 35-year old artist stuck in the endless loop of touring, from the initial excitement to long periods of travel and the loneliness and jet lag that can haunt such an existence.

JUDY BLAME – NEVER AGAIN

Posted on 2016-08-22

In the early 1980s Blame’s non-conformist attitude and a desire to distinguish himself within the London club scene motivated him to produce jewellery. His modest resources shaped his DIY approach and led him to incorporate found objects as a foundation for making his adornments; early creations questioned established material hierarchies and were testimony to the harsh realities of industrial and economic decline. It was during this period that he encountered a range of creative individuals including Derek Jarman, Anthony Price, John Maybury and Leigh Bowery who championed his inventive approach to making fashion accessories.

The exhibition is presented as a montage rather than a chronology that brings together an arrangement of artefacts, including clothing, collages, jewellery, fashion editorials, sketchbooks and T-shirts alongside unique commissions that bear witness to Blame’s tactile, thought-provoking, approach to fashion and his propensity towards collaboration and experimentation.

JUVENILE CORRECTIONS

Posted on 2016-08-22

The United States locks up more young people than any other country in the world – and a disproportionate number of detainees are African American, Latino, or youth of color. In this timely exhibition, photographers Richard Ross and Zora Murff take us behind the scenes of America’s juvenile justice system, exploring issues of social justice, treatment, placement, and the role of images in how we perceive incarcerated youth.
