ADIDAS ORIGINALS X SPEZIAL AW15 – ALPINE LUXE
2015-09-07Adidas Originals x SPEZIAL is a modern, archive inspired capsule collection of clothing and footwear that presents a premium and modern vision of the brand’s core aesthetic. Whilst appealing to its most devoted fans it introduces a pure interpretation of the brand’s identity to a whole new audience.
After the success and excitement around the previous adidas Originals x SPEZIAL collections comes the much anticipated AW15 collection. Alongside new designs, vintage adidas apparel pieces are re-designed and re-invented in premium fabrics and modern cuts.
The adidas Originals x SPEZIAL range is not solely about the engineered science of pure performance sportswear, the high fashion of luxury brands or the nostalgia for one to one vintage reproductions. adidas Originals x SPEZIAL is a modern collection that pays its dues to all these areas without being dedicated to any of them.
Whilst adidas is fundamentally a sportswear company, it has always had a rich history in leisurewear dating back over 40 years to the era of Adi Dassler himself. The adidas Originals x SPEZIAL clothing and footwear range provides a contemporary take on adidas’s history in this area.
The tracksuit was pioneered by Adi Dassler so adidas Originals x Spezial takes this adidas staple and pushes it into new territories. The Settend lI leisure suit is worked in needle cord whilst the Middleton tracksuit presents ‘sports luxe’ at its very best. The Middleton tracksuit treads the fine line between sportswear and tailoring as the tracksuit is married with the lining of classic suiting. Outerwear sees a vintage, hiking anorak reproduced in state of the art Swiss organic ETA cotton. The iconic adidas rainjacket is updated in the ST10 jacket using highly waterproof Climastorm performance fabric with a Primaloft lining. Premium fleece hoodies and sweats as well as tees take the graphic language of adidas Originals x Spezial and give it a winter twist using the ‘Trefoil snowflake’ graphic as a brand signifier.
The footwear takes six classic adidas silhouettes and tweaks them whilst retaining the brand’s DNA. A favourite amongst collectors the adidas Munchen that was only ever produced under license in Japan. This season sees it return in 2 colourways as the Munchen SPZL. The tennis classic the GS SPZL also sees an uncompromising one to one reproduction. Alongside these classics are new hybrid shoes like the adidas Kirkdale SPZL running shoe that marries up different elements of vintage runners to create a new shoes. The much sought after Albrecht SPZL – a hybrid shoe inspired by the much revered adidas Leisure series – sees a new mid cut incarnation in luxury grey suede. The Mounfield SPZL combines the waterproof leather and colour palette of the adidas Super Trekking boots with the adidas Boston upper – a shoe that bridges the gap between running shoes and hiking boots.
