IPOD RECORD CASE

Posted on 2009-02-16

Talk about an old technology embracing a new technology, these iPod cases made from old 45 RPM records literally do that. Made from a vinyl 45 with a clear plexiglass window and a cork liner, these iPod cases finally take those old records off the shelf and put them to good use. Note how the center hole of the record has been lined up exactly with the scroll wheel of the iPod. These cool cases were made by Contexture Design, but unfortunately they are completely sold out of the 45 cases- although they still have (the significantly less exciting) blank cassette tape iPod Nano cases.

THE ART OF LOCATION: LI-AN LODGE, LONGJI, CHINA

Posted on 2009-02-16

Stepping through the door, you will see that the lodge is the work of an artist – the gorgeously ornate wooden structure (not a nail in sight) is filled to the brim with richly coloured paintings and elegant antiques. And perched on the mountaintop overlooking breathtaking rice terraces and local villages as far as the eye can see Li-An Lodge perfectly complements its setting. Quite an impressive feat.

DORMICE

Posted on 2009-02-09

DORMICE are a pair of artists who together have made fans of Versace, Roberto Cavelli and Leonardo Di Caprio, with their paintings of Supermodels and luxury media inspired imagery. Heinrich Nicolaus was a famous abstract artist in Germany before becoming bored with the ease he could make huge sums of money for his works without a challenge, and so setting off travelling the world lecturing artists on, not how to paint, but how to become a famous artist. In Canada he met Sawan Yawnghwe who was a prodigy in figurative painting. Sawan, with the arrogance of youth and genius muscled his way into Heinrichs large studio and started to produce stunning figurative works, which Heinrich startted addig text to, and the collaboration team was formed.

DORMICE have now painted together in Italy for 11 years. They had Leonardo Da Vinci’s old studio in a castle in Tuscany for 5 years, but have recently moved to a gigantic converted church where they make paintings up to 20 feet long which use the images we are constantly bombarded with in fashion and luxury magazines to comment on life.

Currently showing at the Wanted Gallery in Notting Hill, including many never before seen works and an installation by Heinrich Nicolaus.

MULBERRY ELIOT HOLDALL

Posted on 2009-02-09

Recently we’ve seen a growing amount of faux leather holdalls making their way onto the high-end market. It’s not a movement we endorse, as faux leather looks and feels terrible in comparison to the real thing. These Mulberry holdalls use heavy grain leather which beautifully ages with wear, leaving a bag that looks better the more you use it. It’s also the perfect size for airport hand luggage restrictions and thus makes a chic and stylish travel bag.
