ELISA BEE – I LOVE ACID 029

Posted on 2024-03-18

Elisa Bee makes her (official) debut on Balkan Vinyl’s I Love Acid series for their 29 entry. Having landed a few singles on Balkan proper and remixed WTCHCRFT within the series itself, it was only a matter of time before the Milan-based Bee dolled out her own sheet. Taking cues from all the classically squelchy moods and motifs of the genre, she brings her own nerve-y, but infectious energy to the affair that’s made her one of the most in-demand selectors around. The darkly psychedelic ‘In Acido’ in particular will fill floors all year long.

NPVR, NIK COLK VOID & PETER REHBERG – 33 34

Posted on 2024-03-18

NPVR is the avant garde duo made up of the late Peter Rehberg and Nik Void. Editions Mego is proud to present their second and final release. No this is not some kind of Beatles synthetic AI that raises the dead reconstructed recordings but rather a new album made by the humans and their machines.

The initial meeting of Rehberg and Void was in London in 2016 and despite or due to their mutual awkwardness found solace and compatibility in the fact that they both had a similar electronic modular set up, along with matching cases to transport all. The idea to collaborate was an obvious and organic process as a means to connect their individual gear together and observe the outcome. The fruits of these initial experiments, recorded in London, resulted in the playful experimentation of their acclaimed 2017 release 33 33 (eMego 251).

SOUND SYNTHESIS – ORBITAL 108

Posted on 2024-03-18

Malta’s Sound Synthesis returns to the Orbital Mechanics label for the eighth entry in their Orbital 100 EP series. Hard-hitting electro is the game here once again, as Sound Synthesis brings his typically dark and retro-futuristic bent to the proceedings for a walloping collection of tracks ready to level any system. The aptly titled ‘Ominous’ certainly boasts a spooky, unnerving energy, but it’s the frantic ‘Communication Frequency’ that will really move bodies.

CEEPHAX ACID CREW – CEERIAL PORT

Posted on 2024-03-11

The WeMe label dusts off some classic acidic productions with this reissue of Ceephax Acid Crew’s 2006 EP Ceerial Port. Tracks like the skin-crawlingly tense ‘Red Dx Acid’ share wax space here with more playful fare like the warpspeed ‘Acid Surf Dream’ without diluting the impact. The closing mid-tempo roller ‘Woodlice Acid’ proves Ceephax can get his point across with a lighter touch, too. As played by Aphex Twin at Field Day 2023.

U – PARADE

Posted on 2024-03-11

London based enigma U has a devotion to texturising the club’s contents. Since first arriving on Phantasy Sound in 2014, they have lingered at the edges of a dazed and hazy dancefloor with a curious crosspollination of styles and sounds. Records for ManMakeMusic, Technicolour, and Where To Now? constantly morph and blend, seeming to come from a hardcore ravers’ paradise and an abstract murky dream sequence all at once. Following their last release for the label in 2021, U is back with another EP that pulls and sculpts dance music into metamorphic forms.
