MARIE DAVIDSON – CHASING THE LIGHT / WORK IT

Posted on 2019-08-12

“‘Chasing The Light’ is a track I composed last summer in Montreal specifically for the “Working Class Woman” tour. It’s a fast and energizing musical journey that is meant to keep you moving from start to finish. I’m particularly happy about the many melodic sequences and the bass line on this one. It’s my take on Trance music, but as with everything I do, I try not to pastiche a style but only take the references that inspire me to make something on my own terms. The foundation of the track was recorded at Nadel Eins Studio in Berlin, and the mixing and overdubs were done in Montreal with the help of Pierre Guerineau. It’s my final effort regarding Club music, as I’m ready to move on to a new project that is very dear to me, but before making this shift, I still have many touring dates on my agenda, so I hope to see you somewhere, chasing the light.”

Completing the 12” are the Soulwax remix of ‘Work It’ – named Annie Mac’s ‘Hottest Record In The World’ and Mixmag’s ’38 Best Tracks Of 2019 So Far’ – and the “raw and syncopated acid techno” (Resident Advisor) of Daniel Avery’s remix of ‘Lara’. Both available on vinyl for the first time. The release follows remixes by Nina Kraviz, John Talabot and Afrodeutsche and Silent Servant in recent months.

JUNGLE BROWN – KEEP IT MOVIN

Posted on 2019-08-05

Jungle Brown are set to release their second full-length LP, ‘Full Circle’, on the Mr Bongo label in September 2019.

The first single from this new project, ‘Keep It Movin’, fuses a Tribe Called Quest-esque sound with future rap, adorned with a smooth sax line from UK jazz all-star, Ayo Yung Afrika Pyoneer, and backing vocals from Jungle Brown’s own producer, Tony Bones.

The trio – Ric Flo, MAEAR & Tony Bones – have spent the last two years redefining soulful hip-hop – the sound is bigger, more thought-provoking, and it has matured with a rich soulful underpinning.

FLAME 2 – DIVE / RAIN

Posted on 2019-08-05

A year and a half on from Flame 1, The Bug and Burial come through with the follow-up. The basic premise remains unchanged on Flame 2, with the ones born Kevin Martin and William Bevan offering up a pair of tracks that will seriously test the capacity of the club’s bass bins. Both ‘Dive’ and ‘Rain’ also come cloaked in the same gritty, cavernous reverb that was all over Flame 1’s ‘Fog’ and ‘Shrine’.
