POUL GERNES

Posted on 2010-10-11

For the first time this exhibition provides Gernes’ extensive and intensively colored painterly abstractions in a setting commensurate with their spatial dimensions. In the Deichtorhallen it is possible to present his unusually large-format work series in a spacious museum architecture with 3000 square meters. In this way, the monumental scale of Gernes’ pieces that oscillates between abstraction and ornamental design becomes appropriately tangible as an objective of his art.

This exhibition sheds clear light on the important stages in Gernes’ development – from virtually unknown studies from the 1940s to the large-format stylized floral and linear forms that featured in his late flower paintings of the 1990s. Over 400 exhibits provide a comprehensive insight into the art of the Danish painter, sculptor, filmmaker and performing artist Poul Gernes.

Exhibition runs through to January 16th, 2011

ORIGINAL FAKE GRAPHIC T-SHIRTS FALL/WINTER 2010

Posted on 2010-10-11

Since Original Fake is the brand of artist Kaws, the graphic t-shirts are obviously always among the favorite pieces of the collection. Also, since all the cut-and-sew and most accessories are produced in Japan, the t-shirts are still among the most affordable pieces in the line. The artist has once again produced a strong line-up of graphics for the new season.

A.P.C. + CARHARTT

Posted on 2010-10-11

“Carhartt is in many ways the epitomy of the endless golden west, so brilliantly portrayed by Woody Guthrie, and which has been with us for so long. Wandering towards glory, a journey which is to take you away forever, and lonely teardrops will be shed along the path.

Pioneer spirit, gold digger… to tell you the truth, I have never thought much of these myths, and I find them somewhat nauseating. Nevertheless, its uniform has always meant hitting home base for A.P.C.. I have always tried to emulate this viewpoint that, when convenience is really to the point, the outcome is genuinely beautiful.

Therefore, a collaboration between Carhartt and A.P.C. was clearly the thing to do.

Work clothes are pretty good at leading a life of their own: they’ll ramble on, talking to themselves in your wardrobe, and will always be there for you. It is also true that they speak louder once worn, dirtied, soiled, washed and dried in the open air.
