ADIDAS CONSORTIUM – PACKER X SOLEBOX

Posted on 2017-10-23

The Sneaker Exchange 2017 challenges adidas Consortium’s retail partners to overcome geographical distance and cultural differences to find common ground and collaborate on a footwear pack.
The November installation of the Sneaker Exchange comes from New Jersey’s Packer Shoes and Berlin’s Solebox. Both luminaries in their respective territories, Packer and Solebox actually embrace aforementioned geographical distance and the space that separates them.
They use the famous Silfra Rift, a point on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge where North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, as the basis for their UltraBOOST MID and an Energy Boost. The visual inspiration for the sneaker pack is The Silfra Rift, and inland lake in Island. Its crystal clear water rises from deep within the earth and offers great underwater visibility with a rich array of blue tones.

JOHANN JOHANNSSON – IBM 1401, A USERS MANUAL

Posted on 2017-10-16

Never before pressed on vinyl, IBM 1401, A User’s Manual, is one of Jóhann Jóhannsson’s most-loved works. Released in 2006, the decade since its release has seen Jóhann establish himself as one of the most important composers in the World, notably scoring movies such as Arrival, Sicario and The Theory of Everything.

Inspired by the work his father did in the sixties when chief maintenance engineer of one of Iceland’s first computers, Jóhann originally wrote IBM 1401, A User’s Manual to accompany a dance piece by long-standing collaborator and friend, Erna Ómarsdóttir. For the album release, he rewrote the piece for a sixty-piece string orchestra, with a new final movement (built around a poem by Dorothy Parker) and incorporating both electronics and reel-to-reel recordings made by his father and friends in 1971 of the IBM 1401 mainframe computer singing the hymn Ísland Ögrum Skorið by Sigvaldi Kaldalóns as it was being decommissioned.

The first ever pressing of IBM 1401, A User’s Manual comes in a deluxe gatefold sleeve, reworked by Chris Bigg (v23) from his original design. Pressed on clear vinyl, two live tracks recorded with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra have also been added and are exclusive to the LP version of this release.

ABSOLUT X BAMBI

Posted on 2017-10-16

Bambi is delighted to have been chosen as one of seven artists to produce a unique artwork for Absolut Vodka’s recently launched global campaign, Create A Better Tomorrow, Tonight.

Absolut have long been champions of the creative arts having worked with world class artists and designers including Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Tom Ford.

Create A Better Tomorrow, Tonight represents their latest artistic collaboration with renowned street artist Bambi chosen as one of seven talented and established artists asked by Absolut to create a socially aware design for their campaign.

Gaia Gilardini, Global Communication Director, recently said when discussing this campaign “Absolut has always believed in the power of creativity to spark progress in the world, and that’s something we want to bring to life in everything we do.”

Keen to highlight environmental issues and climate change, Bambi’s Absolut piece entitled, More Ice, features a polar bear and a female Inuit in traditional clothing sharing a kunik (Inuit kiss), an act involving two individuals rubbing noses, a symbol of love and connectivity. A single polar bear precariously hangs onto a melting chunk of ice above the pair.

Bambi says of this collaboration “Absolut is such an iconic brand that has long been involved with the creative arts and social campaigns like Create A Better Tomorrow, Tonight. Climate change is one of our biggest challenges, and works like this I hope help remind people it’s an ongoing and pressing issue.”
