En Suite refers to a sequence of rooms or scenes – to a connection that is not coercively linear although created through a successive rhythm, by proximity, function and repetition. The works in the exhibition stand alone, but in their sequence and in relation to the medium of cinema create a dynamic that functions similarly as a film’s montage.

HARIS EPAMINONDA – VOL XXXIII

It takes strong imagination to travel well. It takes containment to understand space, interiority to think of the outdoors. She grew up in a divided city, a divided island to be precise, in seemingly peaceful times, postwar, her plateau has been the idea of the other side. When I say the other side, I mean all of it, what’s inside and what is not; not yet. Her language is spatial, her main medium is the void, in all its spectrum, from xxs to magnum. And as confirmed by art history, the biggest compositions are made on tiny surfaces.

Y.Z. KAMI – THE DOMES

The presentation brings together two bodies of work by the artist: a survey of Dome paintings made from 2011 to the present, and a group of new Messenger paintings. The exhibition marks a meaningful return to the West Coast for Kami—he spent his early years in Northern California after moving to the United States from Tehran in 1973, and Southern California has played host to a number of his institutional presentations, including a solo exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art nearly a decade ago.

This monumental installation transforms the former church into a dynamic cityscape of towering sculptures, animated LED panels, and striking portraits. This marks the first time an artist is taking over all spaces at St. Agnes, including the courtyard and sculpture garden, with several works designed especially for the unique architecture of the building, forging a powerful dialogue between art and space.

MARCEL DZAMA – EMPRESS OF NIGHT

Dzama’s recent works are fantastical visions of a lush and at-times flooded world where anthropomorphized animals and dancing figures are set against dense junglescapes and expansive skies. References to Francisco Goya and surrealist poet Federico García Lorca (1898–1936)—one of Spain’s most important and celebrated writers—are evident throughout these compositions, suggesting parallels between the war-torn and uncertain eras in which those artists lived and the political, social, and ecological upheavals of our own.
