GILLIAN CARNEGIE
2025-01-27Carnegie has painted still lifes, landscapes, portraits, nudes, and interiors for the past two decades. With these most recent works, she revisits motifs recurring throughout her practice as a means to investigate the historical tradition of painting. Probing at the conventions of the medium, Carnegie layers her simple subjects with art historical and literary references that subvert their appeared normalcy the longer they are viewed. The seven works on display are self-contained, capturing fleeting moments with emotion and specificity through Carnegie’s restrained visual language.
