99LETTERS – SHISHIMAI

Posted on 2022-10-10

New album by Osaka-based electronic producer Takahiro Kinoshita aka 99Letters, based around the sampling and processing of traditional Japanese instruments. The sounds of koto and shakuhachi are transformed through spatial effects and noise to create beguiling ambient drones and out-and-out dancefloor bangers. The title Kaibou Zukan translates as “picture book” and it serves as a kind of audio diary of the artist during lockdown, trapped at home and thinking about their place within their home country, landscape, and culture.

DJ BONE – BLACK MARKET EP

Posted on 2022-10-10

Black Market EP’ is DJ Bone’s first output after a long production hiatus. A widely-respected DJ, producer, and turntablist of the 90’s and 00’s with residencies across the major clubs of Detroit, he has described himself as ‘coming out of hiding’ for this release. Drawing on the full 4/4 force of Detroit techno, ‘Rising’, ‘Fulmination’ and ‘In Solution’ charge with his renewed passion. ‘Power Of The Three’ is a rolling DnB work proving Bone’s skills reach all corners of the dancefloor. Lineups see him sharing decks with legends like Goldie and DJ T-1000. He is also on bills with current techno figureheads like Amelia Lens at Ibiza’s DC10, and TYGAPAW, Anthony Parasole, Psyk at Tresor 31 in Berlin this summer.

HORACE ANDY – MORE BASSEY

Posted on 2022-10-03

A companion album to the critically acclaimed Midnight Rocker, this is Adrian Sherwood’s ‘sound system’ take on the original sessions. Featuring new tracks; radical dancehall re-works with MC interjections from Daddy Freddy and Lone Ranger; and stripped back instrumental version excursions in classic dub reggae style.

Continuing the series that Sherwood began with Heavy Rain, his re-working of Lee “Scratch” Perry’s Rainford album, Midnight Scorchers is both an essential sequel to Midnight Rocker as well as being a powerful album in its own right.

A+A – 060

Posted on 2022-10-03

The 060 EP is the first collaboration between techno superstars Avalon Emerson and Anunaku under the name A+A. Recorded mostly on the fly as these two jetted around the world, it’s among the most melodic music either have recorded. The moody shuffling opening ‘Eternal September’ zeroes in on the ineffable end of summer feeling when the days start getting shorter and the memories of past summer open air parties start getting fuzzier. Whereas the B side’s ‘North Star’ applies a gentle filter over a bumping hardcore line to soften the edges nicely.
