JOE – GET CENTRED

Two years on from his last outing ‘Tail Lift’/‘MPH’ and the elusive Joe returns with a new EP on Comeme. Get Centred is a typically innovative set from Joe. On the evidence of these tracks it’s clear that the producer has been following the recent shift of producers like Peverelist from dubstep to a bassweight techno style, but as usual Joe stands apart from the crowd. ‘Get Centred’ and ‘Line To Earth’ are particularly noteworthy for the way that they play with time signatures. The former stutters along in 7/8, a marking you find very rarely in club tracks, but this unusual choice doesn’t get in the way of its tense, almost Steve Reich-esque build.
