KAREEM ALI – MAWIMBI EP

Posted on 2025-05-12

After the pandemic, the world paused, giving rise to a new creative freedom, and Kareem Ali emerged as one of the shining talents. Praised by Boiler Room, Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, his new EP Mawimbi with Noire & Blanche Records captures the essence of aerial deep house. Ali’s unique blend of Afrofuturism and his cosmic vision shape this project, drawing from Miles Davis’ jazz and the influence of legends like Sun Ra. Mawimbi is a stunning exploration of sound, perfect for a new era of artistic expression.

LAUREN GREENFIELD – SOCIAL STUDIES

Posted on 2025-05-12

Shot during the 2021–2022 school year across Los Angeles—a city synonymous with image and aspiration—Social Studies follows a diverse group of teens navigating high school, home life, and relationships under the influence of ever-present social media. This new body of work builds on Greenfield’s legacy as a visual sociologist, capturing the tensions between online performance and private identity, aspiration and anxiety, vulnerability and self-curation. Lauren Greenfield’s photographic approach parallels her immersive filmmaking: both document a reality that is evolving in real-time.

Lauren Greenfield: Social Studies is a continuation and an evolution of the artist’s decades-long interrogation of American culture. Through the raw honesty of her subjects and the clarity of her vision, Greenfield creates a powerful meditation on adolescence, what she calls “comparison culture”, and the search for authenticity in a curated world. As she continues to investigate the themes of status, beauty, identity, and power, this new series reflects her ongoing commitment to making the invisible visible—revealing how young people see themselves and how we construct and consume those images.

YOHJI YAMAMOTO SUN UMBRELLA

Posted on 2025-05-12

It’s been almost 100 years since Komiya Shoten was founded. And in that time the brand has been razor focused on perfecting one single item, the umbrella. Japanese avant-garde designer Yohji Yamamoto has created his own Komiya Shoten umbrella. Made from Komiya Shoten’s signature wrinkle gabardine fabric, this collaborative umbrella is handmade in Japan by the brand’s artisans. It’s a summer umbrella, designed as a sun parasol and not fit for use in rain.

MARCEL DZAMA – EMPRESS OF NIGHT

Posted on 2025-05-12

Dzama’s recent works are fantastical visions of a lush and at-times flooded world where anthropomorphized animals and dancing figures are set against dense junglescapes and expansive skies. References to Francisco Goya and surrealist poet Federico García Lorca (1898–1936)—one of Spain’s most important and celebrated writers—are evident throughout these compositions, suggesting parallels between the war-torn and uncertain eras in which those artists lived and the political, social, and ecological upheavals of our own.
