ZANELE MUHOLI

Posted on 2025-05-19

Zanele Muholi, a pioneering visual activist and artist, has spent two decades using photography, film, and sculpture to document and celebrate Black Queer lives in South Africa and beyond. Their work challenges gender stereotypes, elevates personal narratives, and underscores the urgent need for visibility, respect, and recognition within the LGBTQIA+ community.

This exhibition highlights several key series from Muholi’s prolific practice. *Somnyama Ngonyama (Hail the Dark Lioness)*, an ongoing self-portrait series, features striking black-and-white images in which the artist assumes various personas. Using everyday objects like clothespins, rugs, and plastic bags as adornments, Muholi transforms the ordinary into potent symbols of personal and political commentary.

JJJJOUND X GYUHAN LEE

Posted on 2025-05-19

JJJJound‘s latest collaboration departs from its fashion-focused projects to present a first-of-its-kind JJJJound lamp crafted by Korean artist Gyuhuan Lee using the label’s packaging materials. Aiming to maximize the role of packaging materials beyond their usual function, the design’s resourceful approach explores the intersection of branding, consumer culture, and centuries-spanning handicraft.

Drawing from the grid proportions of minimalist architecture, the lamps boast a square shape and are offered in a short and a tall edition. When turned off, the lamps resemble mundane cardboard packages, but when turned on, a warm, soft glow transforms the lantern into a refined piece of collectible homeware

This monumental installation transforms the former church into a dynamic cityscape of towering sculptures, animated LED panels, and striking portraits. This marks the first time an artist is taking over all spaces at St. Agnes, including the courtyard and sculpture garden, with several works designed especially for the unique architecture of the building, forging a powerful dialogue between art and space.

PALACE X JEAN CHARLES DE CASTELBAJAC

Posted on 2025-05-19

Palace reunites with iconic French designer and artist Jean Charles de Castelbajac for their third collaborative capsule collection. Drawing directly from Castelbajac’s signature collage aesthetic, the collection transforms his playful artwork into wearable statements. Featuring outerwear, jeans, hoodies, tees and knitwear, each piece is adorned with cut-out lettering, spontaneous shapes and vivid graphic storytelling.

“In this third collection for Palace, I wanted no frontier between art, fashion, style and movement,” Castelbajac shares. “Every element is a moving art piece, a collectible, a special one for universal graphic heroes.” Castelbajac’s signature visual language reinterprets Palace’s streetwear codes, disassembling and rebuilding the brand’s typography using felt appliqué, layered prints and surreal graphics. Nostalgic pop-art influences shine through in rainbow palettes, checkerboard patterns and abstract motifs throughout the range.
