MARIEVIC – POOL

Posted on 2024-09-16

POOL is a series of underwater photographs captured across The United States, documenting the country from the bottom of its swimming pools, looking up to the sky.

Pools are iconic. A place of leisure and carelessness, they rhyme with fun and lush. But they also underscores the potential drawbacks associated with these desires in terms of sustainability and resource consumption. This ambiguity makes it a fascinating subject.

Ovid’s fable of Narcissus stands as a timeless exploration of self-absorption and its consequences. At the heart of the story lies a reflective pool, a mirror-like surface that beckons Narcissus into the depths of his own image. MarieVic’s project invites Narcissus’ reflection to express its point of view, across the United States.

REINHARD MUCHA – BEFORE THE WALL CAME DOWN / LENNEP

Posted on 2024-09-16

For decades, Mucha’s celebrated multifaceted practice has delved into themes of collective memory, history-making, and structures of power. His insightful examinations of cultural systems, particularly those related to the complex history of his native Germany, call forth critical conversations surrounding institutions and politics of display. Composited by Mucha with a formal rigor that nods to Minimalism, his assemblages of raw materials and found objects – wood, aluminum, flooring, footstools, carpenter rulers – elude explicit reading or meaning. The arrangement is the beginning: abstracted and recontextualized from their original functions, the materials are elevated and transformed in this new condition that releases their latent nostalgic, intellectual, and narrative potential. Mucha’s “history and memory boxes” (Hans-Jürgen Hafneri)* are vessels with networks of references that speak not only to his own biography, but also that of the collective history and culture.

BROMPTON – G LINE – FOLDING BICYCLE

Posted on 2024-09-16

Brompton’s G Line and Electric G Line will launch in three foldable sizes in October, available in “Forest Green,” “Adventure Orange,” and “Traildust White” coluorways.

Andrew Richie, the inventor of Brompton’s retracting bike design, presents his most impactful creations in decades dubbed “G Line.” Undoutebly versatile with a sleek design, Brompton’s new bike maintains the comfortable feeling of full-sized gear, allowing riders to go from city to trail in a flash. Featuring a foldable bridge and eye-catching 20-inch wheels, the G Line can collapse and be stored anywhere.

“The G Line truly is the one bike to do it all. Brompton owners are passionate about their bikes but it has always been a bike optimised for cities,” says Brompton. The bike includes hydraulic disc brakes for all-terrain rides, while the Shimano 8-gear system integrates game-changing comfort for all weather conditions.

TAL R – BOY LOOKING AT THE SUN

Posted on 2024-09-16

Working across a diverse range of media including painting, drawing, print, textiles, sculpture, and furniture, Tal R questions our conceptions and presumptions about our surrounding reality. Through his own systematization of the world, with what he calls his “artist mathematics”, he tries to understand the physical world he sees before him and the abstract objects he knows by thought alone. When you approach the works by Tal R you will usually find something very concrete and figurative. Something you can describe to someone on the phone, using simple words. Then, at a closer look, you’ll discover something awkward – something sticky. It is as if you would walk a staircase. Suddenly there is a missing step and you are in mid-air. Something that looked playful and happy at one moment can have a weird other reading. It can turn into something disturbing, even uncanny. Like a dream, his works break down the conventional concepts of space and time and reveal certain aspects of human nature that other disciplines cannot. “That is what makes art so important for society,” according to the artist, “because it is the “ghost” in the machine.”
