Doctor Jeep is back. After his outstanding debut with ‘Push The Body’, the New York artist sharpens his dancefloor-melting skills even further with 3 tracks that revisit his Brazilian roots and bass influences. We guarantee that Mecha, Pika 2, and Macumba are among the strongest weapons in his catalogue.

ELIZABETH GLAESSNER – HEAD GAMES

Posted on 2024-07-15

Elizabeth Glaessner often begins a new painting with a pour of oil paint. As it pools on the surface of her canvases, it becomes something to which she can react; she pushes, spreads, layers, builds up, or wipes away paint to create mysteriously ethereal figures that consume her compositions. Industrial brushes, handles, and squeegees are all implements to shift paint into full, leggy figures, typically nude. Bright, saturated colors meet more muted or earth tones; facial features and other minute details emerge through a
convergence of formal relationships. These figures are often depicted in moments of movement or transition (perhaps swinging a club, floating in a body of water, mid-embrace, or looking and merging with their own reflections.) Glaessner’s process, like the figures she comes to depict, is about transformation.

ERIC FISCHL – BATHERS

A programme of collaborations between the digital producer Vortic and a guest creator, Artist Projects reconsiders traditional modes of creation through technology. Each project is a unique collaboration – a standalone exploration and expansion of an individual’s practice. With access to state-of-the-art technology, from mixed reality to CGI and AI, participating artists are able to experiment in an alternate medium, creating new works entirely or re-envisioning existing motifs in a digital environment. Eric Fischl’s creative collaboration with Vortic began in 2022 and is the first time the artist has worked with virtual reality.

FRED W. MCDARRAH – PRIDE & PROTEST

Posted on 2024-07-15

Pride and Protest represents a view of gay cultural life and the gay rights movement in New York City, from the period before the 1969 Stonewall Uprising and continuing through activist protests around the AIDS crisis in the 1980s. Longtime Greenwich Village photographer Fred W. McDarrah (1926–2007) was the first picture editor and staff photographer for the legendary New York City newspaper The Village Voice. His book The Artist’s World in Pictures, coauthored with Thomas B. Hess, documents the New York art world during the late 1950s. The earliest of the exhibition’s 61 works are portraits of renowned poets Frank O’Hara in 1959, and W.H. Auden in 1966. One of McDarrah’s most famous images captures the exhilaration and determination of the young rebels who instigated the Stonewall rebellion on June 28, 1969, a turning point in the struggle for gay rights. Included in the exhibition are pictures of protests, marches, and key figures of the gay rights movement in all its contentious and celebratory public display.

DYSON – ONTRAC HEADPHONES

Posted on 2024-07-15

Dyson has announced its first-ever set of audio-only headphones, OnTrac, a follow up to its hybrid headphones-meets-air-purifier product from 2023, the Dyson Zone, that drew comparisons to Bane and featured in our best headphones round-up earlier this year. With a singular focus on sound this time, the brand has built on its audio debut and delivered improved battery life, noise-cancelling and newly introduced customisation options, putting the new OnTrac headphones on par with the best flagship devices available from other brands.

Amongst the new product’s many attributes, Dyson is touting the OnTrac’s active noisae-cancelling (ANC) as “best-in-class” and the headphones feature eight onboard microphones that sample external sound around the user at an astonishing rate of 384,000 times per second. This is then processed by a new, custom-built ANC algorithm that works together with the headphones’ carefully considered design, construction and material choice to “cancel up to 40dB of unwanted noise.” And, with the MyDyson app (iOS / Android), users are able measure and record the levels of noise they’re exposed to, helping to promote healthy listening habits as well as track noise overexposure.
