THE LOST KING

Posted on 2022-09-26

In 2012, having been lost for over 500 years, the remains of King Richard III were discovered beneath a carpark in Leicester. The search had been orchestrated by an amateur historian, Philippa Langley, whose unrelenting research had been met with incomprehension by her friends and family and with scepticism by experts and academics. THE LOST KING is the life-affirming true story of a woman who refused to be ignored and who took on the country’s most eminent historians, forcing them to think again about one of the most controversial kings in England’s history.

BILL NACE – E:E

Posted on 2022-09-26

Using the looped-and-screwed methodology of Both, Nace takes a seismic step, building the process into a larger compositional process, employing guitar plus tapes, hurdy gurdy, doughnut pipe, quelle est belle and the nu Nace ax of choice, taishōgoto. Phrases talk to and obliterate each other, expanding and emerging into brave new unheard vistas.

ECHO LTD 005 LP

Posted on 2022-09-26

The elusive Rotterdam-based label Echo Ltd comes through with another anonymous selection of heavy and atmospheric dub techno. Many tracks on the 005 LP feature swathes of dreamy textures with a spacious quality, along with shuffling rhythms that make their dusky club feels perfect for the dancefloor. The murmuring synths and steadily ticking swung rhythms of ‘Maus’ complement the slower sways of ‘Ctrl Z’, submerged in an ocean of dub molasses. ‘Eindbaas’ meanwhile grows in tension, with churning low frequencies and waves of snaking arpeggiated synths.

CONGO IN CONVERSATION

Posted on 2022-09-26

The collaborative reportage Congo in Conversation was launched in April 2020 by Finbarr O’Reilly, laureate of the 11th edition of the Carmignac Photojournalism Award dedicated to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic prevented him from traveling to the DRC to work on his reportage, O’Reilly and the Award team reframed their approach to produce a reportage in close collaboration with Congolese journalists and photographers. Congo in Conversation addresses the human, social and ecological challenges that the DRC faced within the context of the global health crisis, highlighting Congolese photographers and perspectives.
