COM TRUISE – COMPRESS – FUSE

Posted on 2020-11-30

Much like its predecessor, In Decay, the 2014 compilation of unreleased, early Com Truise recordings, In Decay, Too unlocks a new set of rarities and unheard fragments from the past for the producer’s legion of fans. To accomplish such a feat, the Com camp tapped the Internet’s foremost Com Truise archivist, Polychora (formerly Comrade), whose YouTube channel has diligently documented Seth Haley’s musical output since his earliest Komputer Cast (Haley’s podcast mix series) days. Polychora’s vault and input helped Haley and the team locate and curate the ultimate sequence of career-spanning off-album material, showcasing an artist in perpetual orbit of hazy machinist nostalgia. Haley’s singular style of melodic beat music is the work of countless iterations; with In Decay, Too, his idiosyncratic exercises, experiments, and pivots pause for a rightful wave of appreciation.

JEROEN HOFMAN – ZEELAND

Posted on 2020-11-30

“Zeeland” is a popular holiday destination in general. People from various nationalities gather here, at the edge of the North Sea. The coastline still shows so-called natural traces within the cultural landscape, meaning that this land was shaped by two forces, nature and humankind.

This is a multifaceted landscape: harsh, raw, fine, empty, and seemingly endless. This region, which Jeroen Hofman visually describes, represents a bridge between the past and the current era. Its history is reflected in the waves breaking on the sand of its vast beaches. The flat strips of open land reaching all the way to the horizon set a very particular scene for the northern light. A characteristic light depicted perfectly by the 17th century Dutch painters. The current face of the same landscape is marked by ingenious solutions of creative and motivated individuals defying the seasons and the tides to demand compensation from the soil for what the sea has always and continues to reclaim.

NOAH X TIMEX GHOST NETS SUCK

Posted on 2020-11-23

A little over two years ago, Noah put out their Ghost Nets Suck! tee, featuring our turtle mascot and calling attention to the scourge of ghost nets. These abandoned, non-biodegradable, commercial fishing nets litter the ocean and wreak havoc on fragile ecosystems.

The issue has not gone away, so Noah’s message, and their mascot, are back. This time, they’re featured on a Noah x Timex watch, and Noah is donating 10% of its proceeds to Ocean Defenders Alliance, a 1% For the Planet partner whose volunteers physically remove ghost nets and other industrial fishing debris from the ocean.

Based on the Timex 38mm Waterbury watch, this collaborative design features a stainless-steel case, Timex classic INDIGLO backlight and 50 meters of water resistance, plus a 100% recycled polyester band by We aRe SpinDye, whose proprietary dyeing process significantly reduces the use of water and chemicals in its production. The material is high-performance and colorfast, even with repeated exposure to sun and water.

CHARLOTTE HERZIG – IT HAS NO NAME, SO I STYLE IT “THE WAY”

Posted on 2020-11-23

The world appears to move in rhythm, says Charlotte Herzig. Through her painting practice, she has the power to transform this intuitive feeling into a gesture and freeze it. Forms, spaces, and lines merge into bright compositions. One’s gaze becomes curious and explores the various movements found in her work.
It has no name, so I style it “The Way” is Herzig’s first solo show in Basel. For this exhibition, the artist explored different techniques to create works in varying dimensions. As in several of her exhibitions, Charlotte Herzig does not hesitate to imagine murals as multilayered, colorful environments. More than the simple immersion of the visitor in her universe, this process allows Herzig to make evident the effects of repetition in her formal vocabulary. Indeed, one can divide Herzig’s works into motifs. In the style of musical improvisation, the sequences and modules she employs set a specific tone. The mural acts as an atmospheric backdrop to the show.
