KENZO – SNOWBIRD – SS2016 COLLECTION

Posted on 2016-02-01

KENZO presents a new film by the acclaimed writer/director Sean Baker, entitled Snowbird, featuring the KENZO Spring-Summer 2016 collection from Creative Directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim.

Snowbird stars Abbey Lee in her latest role since appearing in the blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road. Abbey Lee plays ‘Young Theo’, a young woman living in a remote desert community.

Sean Baker wrote and directed this original short for KENZO; coming off of his critically-acclaimed feature Tangerine, a dramatic slapstick of life of two Los Angeles trans women, Baker filmed Snowbird in a similar method – it was shot entirely on iPhone.

Slab City, where the film was shot, is a character unto itself in Snowbird. Located in the Sonoran Desert in Calfornia, Slab City is a conglomeration of domestic structures cobbled together with all manner of material, a Mecca for eccentrics living off the grid.

Snowbird is equal parts daydream, elegiac wanderlust, and subtle comedy. Snowbird’s focus is on the narrative and eschews the glitz and glamour of fashion. Even the time period is subjective. The film captures real people in their own surroundings together with actors known for myriad indelible achievements in film history.

MATMOS – ULTIMATE CARE II EXCERPT THREE

Posted on 2016-02-01

“Ultimate Care II Excerpt Three” is from the Matmos album “Ultimate Care II,” out February 19th.

“The source of ‘Ultimate Care II’ is the household washing machine of Matmos, Whirlpool’s ‘top loading, high efficiency washing system, with easy to use consoles, making it simple to select the wash/spin speed combination for each load.’ The entire album was sourced by the duo’s capturing, cutting, and manipulation of the sounds generated from the machine, allowing the sounds to have their own existence. The video echos this process, separating the machine from it’s intended domestic position. An animated model of a washing machine is often shown as isolated, orbiting in a screen of black, while undergoing material transformation- it is a visual equivalency to acousmatic sound. The hard, white facade of the machine undergoes a material change, warping, melting, and bending at the inclination of body parts, bodies at work, captured from washing machine pornography. The domestic is work, just as sex is work, all inclusive in the industry of sterility.” – Max Eilbacher

LEE SCRATCH PERRY’S VISION OF PARADISE

Posted on 2016-02-01

Lee Scratch Perry’s Vision of Paradise is a unique project in many ways. It is the life story of the legendary musician, but it is not a biography, it is a fairytale documentary! The director followed Lee Perry for thirteen years and discovered an unbelievable story, a revelation, told about and with one of the major protagonists of contemporary music, the other half of the story that has never been told. The movie can be seen as a guide for how to change the world with music, with a positive attitude, mindset or, as Lee Perry calls it, vibration.

In theatres February 5th, 2016
