Accidental boss and musical mastermind Matthew Herbert offers up a brand new album in the form of The Shakes via his own Accidental imprint. It marks his first decidedly dancefloor orientated full-length in nine years and seemingly the sequel to 2001’s Bodily Functions. The Shakes features a whole range of musicians such as saxophonist Ben Castle, Dave Okumu (The Invisible) and Sam Beste (Hejira), whilst on vocals we hear Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne (Hejira) and Ade Omotayo (Kindness & Amy Winehouse). From the surreal swing-infused energy of Strong to the more ambient stillness of Bed, Herbert’s return to the upbeat corners of his songwriting arsenal is more than welcome.
